BACK TO THE CARROT JUICE...

The deadly conspiracy and trumped up trial criminal charges conceived by the Time Lord High Council have been quashed, as too has the bold renegade ambitions initiated by the mysterious Valeyard operating from within the Matrix. The Sixth Doctor and Mel now prepare for new adventures in the TARDIS, as seen in this great posed publicity image rarely seen.

Such potential onscreen adventures beyond Season Twenty Three were sadly not to be, however, for series star Colin Baker, what with the insulting plans of colluding, sneaky BBC One upper-level management. Never had a Doctor been treated so shabbily and unfairly in the series Classic Era history...

WELCOME TO TERMINUS!

A mystery at the centre of the galaxy could be the catalyst to its very destruction as the Fifth Doctor and his new space pirate friend Kari (Liza Goddard) discover the fate of the mysterious skeletal alien form of 'The Pilot', the deceased keeper of the now Lazar disease herding colony of Terminus, as seen in Stephen Gallagher's interesting titular four-parter from Season Twenty. I highly recommend Gallagher's original novel adaptation of the tale, which showcases events in an even darker, detailed and science fiction-edged way than was possible with the ambitious 1983 story's on screen limited budget and restricted filming time.

A (FANG) ROCK-Y 'HORROR' SHOW!

Legends and superstitions clash with the realities of a murderous alien terror at large, as an isolated lighthouse and its small crew, plus the newly arrived Fourth Doctor and Leela, with a shipwrecked group of near unlikeable passengers, face the Horror of Fang Rock, a genuine great from Terrance Dicks, well made by director Paddy Russell and featuring a then grumpy Tom Baker at his alien best onscreen. The ending to episode three is truly one of the most chilling moments in Classic Who history.

The audio soundtrack LP of this four-parter is available from Demon Records, featuring special linking narration by Louise Jameson.

THE MASTER AT 50: OF MINDS AND MISSILE!

He may be as stuck on the Earth as his nemesis The Doctor, but the nefarious Master will stop at nothing to achieve power and destruction for his own aims against the planet, unleashing the dreaded Keller Machine with its disturbing power to destroy men's minds, and liberating some of the UK's most hardened criminal to hijack a deadly nerve gas missile from the very clutches of its UNIT guardians.

The Mind of Evil, the second story of Season Eight (which is now available in remastered Blu-ray as part of The Collection), and the second to feature Roger Delgado's original interpretation of the Master, is a worthy and superior follow-up to Terror of the Autons, gritty and full of incident, showcasing the villain in even greater antagonistic and sadistic glory against Jon Pertwee's incarnation. The art above is by Andrew Skilleter for the Target novel adaptation by Terrance Dicks, another of the author's excellent eighties works.

Out now on Blu-ray.

ARCTIC AWAKENINGS - 'THE ICE WARRIORS'!

DVD release art by Lee Binding.

The second incarnation of our favourite Time Lord will need his wits and his big furry coat about him more than ever when he lands within a future-time Great Britain now held in the grip of a deadly new ice age, and encountering a force of reptilian Martian warriors reawakened. It can only be Brian Hayles classic six-parter, The Ice Warriors, which effectively introduced a new and memorable race of monsters with a unique honour coda to the series, and were at their best working within the atmospheric confines of the claustrophobic B/W era of the show.

The official drama LP soundtrack for the adventure, from the stalwart Molten Vinyl/Demon Records company, is available from June 4th, 2021.

Available in its 'Molten Vinyl' LP edition.
