THE EXECUTIONER'S TALE...

The evil scientist Davros's reign of killing, revenge and destruction via his lethal Dalek creations must come to an end, once and for all, as the Fifth Doctor tries to find the inner courage to murder his long-time nemesis. A tense and interesting dramatic scene from Resurrection of the Daleks.

Eric Saward's highly enjoyable action/adventure novelisation finally comes to paperback as part of BBC BOOKS hugely successful, re-developed Target imprint label - one of seven exciting new titles across numerous Doctors, available from March 11th, 2021.

AN ENCOUNTER AT 'WARRIORS' GATE'!

At the end of E-space, at the gateway to past, present and future, the enigmatic leonine 'Time Sensitive' race known as the Tharils face a new destiny away from the slavery they'd ultimately brought to themselves, in this terrific art by Andrew Skilleter for Steven Gallagher's haunting and beautifully executed pure sci-fi gem Warriors' Gate, adapted by the respected author into an equally well regarded novelisation, that would also be released as an 'Extended Edition' audio book a year ago.

What happened to Romana after The Gateway? Well, find out more about her and K-9 Mark II's exploits in an all-new original tale from Stephen Gallagher: The Kairos Ring, out now from BBC Audiobooks.

THE MASTER AT 50: A CHANCE TO SURRENDER?

Having been used to the story as told in Terrance Dick's marvellous TARGET adaptation, I was a little disappointed with watching the TV version of Terror of the Autons once I caught up with it as a faded, very faded, copy of a copy of a copy from Australia back in the mid-eighties. Over time, though, my appreciation of it's colourful comic-strip-esque storytelling has grown on me, as well as its important place in bringing in a restart of sorts for the Jon Pertwee era whose success from this point on was not to be underestimated. I love this posed publicity image showing Roger Delgado's villainous Master 'surrendering', whilst costume designer Ken Trew's glorious costume freak creation Auton bodies litter the surrounding field.

Witness The Master's premiere appearance remastered anew on the upcoming, all-new The Collection - Season Eight Blu-ray set, from BBC STUDIOS, available next month.

'Q' IS FOR QUARKS!

They were touted as the next big monster for the series during the Troughton era, but sadly the robot Quarks, servants of the deadly space-faring The Dominators, never quite made it to Who icon-dom - too cute to be thoroughly deadly, they needed a better overall story in which to be showcased. They'd continue to appear in TV Comic's of the time, though, and make a final 'rogue's gallery' appearance in The War Games.

Great cover art by Andrew Skilleter of the Quarks and their master, Rago (Ronald Allen, in a suitable creepy performance), for the well-adapted Target book release of the eighties. The art is available to buy as a print via Skilleter's online store.

ROMAN HOLIDAY!

A period of rest and relaxation for our time travellers soon turns into a fight for survival and escape from the historical era of The Romans, an intriguing and well made mix of drama and comedy (though Derek Francis's performance as Emperor Nero remains a love-it or hate-it factor with fans) from accomplished Season Two story editor Dennis Spooner.

Original Radio Times clipping for the story.
