'THE FIVE DOCTORS' AT 40: ARRIVAL IN THE DEATH ZONE!

Doctor Two gets his bearings in the legendary Death Zone of Gallifrey.

Now arrived in the mysterious and lethal environs of what they soon recognise as the Death Zone on Gallifrey, the kidnapped Doctors and their companions realise that they have no choice but to travel to the Dark Tower at the heart of the landscape and discover why they have been brought there, and find a way to get back to their respective Time-Stream locations!

Going way beyond the location distance BBC guide line policy, producer John Nathan-Turner was able to get special filming in picturesque Wales for shooting of key scenes for the Anniversary special, though due to the scheduling availability of Patrick Troughton, the harsh cold winter weather of March 1984 would rear its head against the production...

Doctor Three surveys his surroundings before encountering Sarah Jane Smith.

A mist builds as the Doctor sees an emergent figure ahead.

Sarah Jane Smith emerges and soon falls down the side of the ledge and needs to be rescued.

Finally reunited with a mature Susan (also kidnapped by the Time Scoop in a sadly never filmed sequence), Doctor One must once more confront a Dalek (played by series regular John Scott Martin and voiced by Roy Skelton) in a strange secondary facility within the Death Zone.

"It is the Doctor! EX-TER-MIN-ATE!"

The Dalek inadvertently destroys itself with its own ricocheting weapons.

Soon finding the TARDIS in the Dead Zone wasteland, Doctor One and Susan meet the Fifth Doctor and his companions, where they will soon work together ion a strategy to investigate the mystery that has captured them.

Newly arrived in the Death Zone, the Master tries to win over Doctor Three and Sarah but ultimately fails.

Our heroes on their guard against the old enemy.

The Master, tired of rescuing the Doctor, allies himself with a force of Cybermen who have arrived in the zone from the time scoop.
