'THE FIVE DOCTORS' AT 40: CYBER MASSACRE!

Machine vs Machine! Art by Tom Connell.

Having reached a slate quarry environment that will lead them to the Tower of Rassilon, the Third Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith now find themselves powerless to move in case they be slain by a suddenly appeared Raston Warrior Robot, able to move like lightning and kill even swifter. Thankfully, a newly arrived force of Cybermen distract the killing machine, who engages them with skill and brutality as our heroes manage to slip away from the ongoing carnage...

Sarah and Doctor Three, soon frozen still trapped by a lethal new killer.

Directed with class by producer John Nathan-Turner (alongside series regular Stunt Coordinator Stuart Fell), handling a special second unit at the busy and very cold Wales location in March 1983, the sequence was easily a highlight of the eighties Who era, with a terrific accompanying music score from Peter Howell of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

The Raston Warrior Robot (dancer Keith Hodiak) takes murderous aim.

It's soon about to be a very bad day for this patrol of Cybermen...

Ready to engage their new opponent.

The attack begins.

For the scenes of the various Cybermen being attacked, a stuntman donned the costume for the filming and endured all kinds of onscreen brutality!

One of the speared Cybermen emits liquid fluids in a gross scene that partially made it into the final cut.

Burn, Cyber, burn!

The final shocking kill for the victorious Raston Warrior Robot.
