PUTTING THE 'SHOCK' INTO 'EARTHSHOCK'! (2026)

The Cybermen are back!

Deep in the labyrinth hold of a cargo freighter travelling the space lanes back to planet Earth, the emotionless Cybermen begin phase one of their attack on Earth in Eric Saward's superb Earthshock, featuring redesigned Cybermen, surprising and delighting fans young and old with their secret and unexpected return, who looked absolutely superb in this post Star Wars-defined era, and losing none of their ability to scare - the silver chin under their masks proving particularly creepy, and reminding us of the once human condition...

Superb art promoting the final episodes in the Radio Times back in March 1981.

The popular story as captured on the cover of the the celebrated In-Vision fan magazine. Art by Gordon Lengden and Stuart Glazebrook.

This was a story that felt like nothing Doctor Who had done in years- ambitious, pacy, scary and genuinely atmospheric, winning audiences over as they were surprised and thrilled by the reveal of the silver menace, unseen on TV since 1975. Earthshock, despite being a last-minute story in the schedule, replacing an ultimately dropped tale (the second and last attempt to contribute to the series) from the acclaimed sci-fi author Christopher Priest (The Enemy Within), would quickly and deservedly become one of the ultimate triumphs of the Eighties era and cement Eric Saward as one of the show's finest talents in the eighties.

Operating from their secret base and planning the destruction of Earth.
