Landing on a dead world referred to as G7, the Second Doctor and his trusty companions Jamie and Zoe discover an Earth scientific base shrouded in fear and building paranoia, some of whose important personnel have gone missing or become traumatized by an eerie buzzing sound. As the Doctor's determined but careful investigation begins, Zoe soon falls under a strange influence, during which he and Jamie must unravel the mystery of scientific analysis fragments from an alien shard mysteriously operating from what soon appears to be its crash site. As the psychological dangers to the Earth team and Zoe intensify, can the Doctor save them all in time?
Despite a relatively thin story with shades of plot reminiscent of several Space: 1999 episodes, long-time Who fan (and respected publisher and writer) David J Howe nonetheless manages to capture the Troughton era well, especially with an essence of its legendary 'base under siege' storytelling that was to be a major part of the Second Doctor's middle year in the role. David Troughton once again does a marvellous job of audio storytelling and capturing the 'Cosmic Hobo' incarnation his still very much-missed father played so beautifully.
