At first it all seems like some kind of farce, but the Gallifreyan Time Lords' gathered show trial, run by the stern Inquisitor, soon turns sinister, of which the threat to the Sixth Doctor's life becomes even more real. The epic 14-part The Trial of a Time Lord brought the classic series back to TV screens in September 1986 after a long eighteen-months away- once deemed as a budget-saving 'rest' and a backtrack after being officially cancelled - caused via a needless 'creative' decision by new/old BBC executives trying to make their mark, whilst also satiating a few personal grudges along the way, using the still-popular series (whose continued popularity the 'suits' were embarrassed by) as a bruised and battered cancellation weapon in order to bolster their egos and in-house reputations.
