THE MASTER AT 50: A CHANCE TO SURRENDER?

Having been used to the story as told in Terrance Dick's marvellous TARGET adaptation, I was a little disappointed with watching the TV version of Terror of the Autons once I caught up with it as a faded, very faded, copy of a copy of a copy from Australia back in the mid-eighties. Over time, though, my appreciation of it's colourful comic-strip-esque storytelling has grown on me, as well as its important place in bringing in a restart of sorts for the Jon Pertwee era whose success from this point on was not to be underestimated. I love this posed publicity image showing Roger Delgado's villainous Master 'surrendering', whilst costume designer Ken Trew's glorious costume freak creation Auton bodies litter the surrounding field.

Witness The Master's premiere appearance remastered anew on the upcoming, all-new The Collection - Season Eight Blu-ray set, from BBC STUDIOS, available next month.
